Dehydration Being adequately hydrated is absolutely vital to our wellbeing. But if we don’t ingest enough water from the foods we eat, and/or don’t drink enough pure water on a daily basis, chances are that we may very well end up living our lives in a state of chronic dehydration. Surprisingly enough, this is much a much more widespread problem than many people might imagine, and an ongoing state of dehydration is one of the most fundamental and unrecognized factors contributing to our susceptibility to chronic illness. Abusing alcohol or habitually drinking sugary or artificially sweetened soft drinks or coffee can also contribute to a state of chronic dehydration, as can the consumption of too many processed foods and not enough fresh, whole, moisture-laden fruits and vegetables. Adequate hydration is crucial both to our ability to maintain good health as well as to our capability of recovering our health if we are hurt or sick. Therefore when we are less than well hydrated for prolonged periods of time, this can be a significant factor in whether or not we can get well and stay well. Chronic dehydration can be a major causative factor in any number of health problems, particularly including things like constipation and other digestive difficulties, fatigue and loss of energy, fluctuations in blood pressure, and urinary tract infections. Both the delivery vital nutrients to the cells and the removal of metabolic wastes and other toxins are transported from the cells and out of the body rely on the free flow of fluids. This means that vital fluids such as our blood, lymph, mucus and urine can only perform their respective functions properly when we are adequately hydrated. Being chronically dehydrated can, over time, cause stagnation in our bodies, and this kind of sluggishness or congestion may potentially even lead to blockages within our internal streams. Such torpidity eventually contributes to the breakdown of homeostasis within our bodies, which is the underlying cause of all chronic degenerative disease. |
